The Future of Eye Care is Here ...

... From April 2010 Kathryn Stott Optometrists will be offering an Advance Eye Examination.

Our advance eye examination will include OCT imaging, this is optical coherence tomography it is akin to a CT scan, but specifically designed for the eye. The OCT allows earlier diagnosis and better monitoring and management for many pathologies and conditions; it is especially useful in the detection and monitoring of glaucoma and macular conditions.

OCT differs from a standard retinal photography. As a standard retinal photography captures a two dimensional image of the back of the eye, allowing any changes on the surface of the retina to be detected. An OCT creates a three dimensional scan of the back of the eye allowing your optometrist to not only see the retina in an amazing amount of detail but also to have a glimpse below the retina, at underlying tissues of the eye. This is incredibly useful at picking up changes in the eye that have not yet reached the surface and would therefore not be visible using any other means. The OCT also stores previous scans so that at future visits the instrument will compare one image to the next and highlight any changes that may have occurred. If you are interested in this our advance eye examination it is £50 and for just an OCT scan it is £30.
