See Africa Differently
How Life Changing can a Pair of Spectacles be?
Sight is one of the most precious of human senses, imagine a world where you were blind because your health care system means that spectacles and contact lenses are not available. Now imagine if you were give a pair of spectacles and you have gone from being blind to being able to see the world around you in its true beauty and clairty.
This happens daily in Africa, as blindness is preventable through a pair of spectacles. The lack of health care in Africa means people are told they are blind, when actually they just need a pair of spectacles which their countries health care does not provide eye care near to the standard of our own.
A pair of spectacles will transform somesone life in Africa. Eye care professional are found in every village, town and city in the UK. We as eye care professional understand the importance of sight and are aware how advanced our country is with eye care.
We have decied for the month of March to make a difference and raise the awareness of preventable blindness in Africa. We are firstly working with Vision Aid Overseas (England 1081695) and Comic Relief (Englan and Wales 326568 and Scotland SC039730) to make a difference.
For every pair of spectacles we sell with the help of Carl Zeiss Vision, we will be giving a pair of spectacles to Vision Aid Overseas for them to give to someone in Sierra Leone. The reason we have picked Sierra Leone, is Kathryn Stott the previous owner, went there to help them in their efforts, so we want to continue this work by supplying them with more spectacles. We do collect old spectacles for Vision Aid Ovearseas, however it is more ethical if we give the people of Africa, a new pair which the prescription is made for them, like it is in our own country.
For services we offer free of charge, such as spectacle adjustments or replaces nose pads, we are asking for a contribution for this service to be given to Comic Relief. Comic Relief are raising awareness of preventable blindness in Africa, mainly an eye condition called Tracoma. We want to support Comic Relief if their efforts as it is something we feel passionatly about, all of the team in our practice will be dressing up for Comic Relief as well, so why not pop into the practice on Friday the 18th of March.
We look forward to seeing soon in our practice and hope you will support us in our efforts to help those with preventable blindness see the world in the clairity we are privledged to see it in.
