We are pleased to be sponsoring the next production by
The Grove & Rawdon Theatre Company. This is the ever popular Rodger & Hammerstein's
Carrousel and is at Yeadon Town Hall from Tuesday 15th to Saturday 19th of May.
Follow the above link to their Website to find out more, and to download a
booking form.
Our connection to The Grove & Rawdon Theatre Company
began about five years ago, when their director Royston Bayfield came to
work at the practice for a year. The standard of their performances is always
quite outstanding and
we are pleased to continue our association with them.
April 2007
Kathryn Stott Optometrists have been short listed for
an Optical Oscar, an Optician Award. Only two practices have reached the
final for the category "Software Practice of the Year". This reflects our
dedication to investing in technology to help the practice run smoothly and
efficiently, in order to provide a top quality service for our patients. The
ceremony is to be held at the Hilton Hotel at the Birmingham NEC.
Will we win? Watch this space!
March 2007
We are pleased to welcome a new receptionist to the
team, Lynn Chang. Lynn and her family have been patients of ours for many
years, but now she is getting used to being on the other side of the desk!
We now have five part-time receptionists, with three
in the practice most of the time, two on the front desk and one on
administration duties. This enables us to provide a speedy and efficient
service for all our patients.
November 2006
We have provided Buddy Holly's
spectacles for the Grove and Rawdon Theatre Company's current production of "Buddy the
Musical". Everyone has seen photographs of Buddy at the height of his
fame wearing heavy black spectacles, but tracking down the perfect pair was
harder than we expected. We found a vintage pair in the USA, via eBay, and
had them glazed with anti-refraction lenses and adjusted them to fitRoger
Rowley,
the actor playing Buddy. We also supplied a lighter pair for him to wear at
the start of the show, before he found fame- his manager apparently wanted
him to "ditch the specs" but Buddy decided they would be part of his image!
Now as then, anyone choosing new frames has to decide-
do they want them to be as unobtrusive as possible, or make a statement?
By co-incidence, heavier plastic frames are at long last coming back into
fashion, after years of minimalist metal designs, but not quite as heavy as
Buddy's!
October 2006
Sue Long, our senior receptionist, has completed the
Great North Run for the second time, in a time of 2hrs 15 minutes. She raised
over £300 for
Guide Dogs for the Blind. She ran with her friend Judith, who works for a
vets, so this charity was the obvious choice!
August 2006
Our graduate trainee Laura Semeraz joined the practice
a year ago, and has just passed her Professional Qualifying Exams. I am very
pleased that she will be staying with us two days a week as a fully
qualified Optometrist.
Kath Stott
May 2006
Kath Stott has just returned from ten days in Sierra
Leone, West Africa, with the charity Vision Aid Overseas. "This was my fifth
visit to this lovely country. The purpose of this visit was to continue the
training of the opticians in the Sight Savers hospitals in Freetown and Bo.
Despite the setbacks and distress caused by the Civil War, the departments
that I helped to set up before the war have survived, with many of the
original staff members, and I took great delight in meeting with them again,
and helping them to supply optical services to their fellow countrymen and
women. "
